New York Jets

The New York Jets were founded in 1959; originally called the Titans of New York (“Titans are bigger and stronger than Giants”). The name Jets came about in 1963 from their stadium location near the LaGuardia Airport and was to reflect the modern approach that would be taken with the team after a change in ownership. Werblin, the one who had bought the team, also changed the team colors from blue and gold to green and white, inspired by his own birthday being on Saint Patrick’s Day. The Jets share their current home stadium, MetLife Stadium, with the Giants. It is one of the few sports facilities in the US that is shared by two professional teams from the same league. The stadium’s front row seats are the closest to the action of all NFL stadiums with only 46 feet separating fans from the 50 yard line. To accommodate both teams, there are separate home locker rooms and the NFL logo is painted in the middle of the field to make it easier and faster to switch between the teams’ decorations.
