The Atlanta Hawks were founded in 1946 as the Buffalo Bisons. That same year, however, only thirteen games into their first season, their owner moved them to Moline, Illinois, where they became the tri-cities Blackhawks. In the 1950's the team moved twice; first to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and then to St. Louis, Missouri. The latter city was the location in which they won their first NBA championship. The year was 1957. In 1968. the team was sold to a real estate developer in its current home city of Atlanta, Georgia.

The 2010 season was pretty spectacular for Hawks fans. The redemptive moves the organization has made over the last few years have really started to pay off. In the first round of the playoffs, the Hawks faced the Milwaukee Bucks. They won the series in the seventh game. It was eerily similar to what had transpired the previous year. The championship, however, again, was not to be. They were eliminated in the second round, falling to the Orlando Magic in a four game sweep. With a new head coach in place, Larry Drew, the next season is looking very promising.
